About the Film

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Patrick Vollrath (7500) and written by Andrew Ferguson, Subversion is produced by the veteran team at di Bonaventura Pictures (Transformers, Deepwater Horizon). The ensemble cast features an incredible line-up alongside Hemsworth and James, including Michael Peña, Joe Cole, and Teresa Palmer.

Subversion centers on a once-promising, highly skilled naval commander (Hemsworth) who finds himself cornered and blackmailed by a ruthless, cartel-like criminal organization. Forced into a tight corner, he must navigate deep-sea perils and pilot a submarine loaded with illicit cargo. What follows is a tense, explosive battle of wits and survival beneath the ocean waves.

Reuniting with a Familiar Leading Man

Cinesite is no stranger to collaborating on major projects with Chris Hemsworth at the helm. Our London VFX teamsrecently served as the lead vendor on Amazon MGM’s sleek 2026 crime-thriller Crime 101, where Hemsworth starred alongside Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, and Halle Berry.

On Crime 101, Cinesite delivered approximately 150 seamless, highly sophisticated invisible effects, ranging from full CG vehicle takeovers and intense stunt sequences to complex digi-double transitions. We are incredibly excited to bring that same level of world-class craftsmanship, technical precision, and creative problem-solving to the deep-sea world of Subversion.
