Cinesite Heads to Annecy 2026: Brad Bird to Showcase ‘Ray Gunn’

The 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival lineup has officially been unveiled, and we are thrilled to announce that Netflix will be hosting a special session with Academy Award®-winning director Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille) to showcase his long-awaited passion project, Ray Gunn.

As the studio behind the animation for this retro-futuristic detective noir, produced for Skydance Animation, the Cinesite team couldn’t be more excited to see this vision take center stage at the world’s premier animation event.

A Masterpiece in the Making

Set in the sprawling city of Metropia, Ray Gunn is a stylish blend of 1940s detective tropes and visionary sci-fi. The film features a powerhouse voice cast including:

  • Sam Rockwell as Raymond Gunn

  • Scarlett Johansson as Venus Nova

  • Tom Waits as Eyera

Bird will take the stage during the ‘Next on Netflix’ showcase to share exclusive insights into the production and the creative journey of bringing this “Buck Rogers meets The Maltese Falcon” story to life.

Annecy 2026: Bigger Than Ever

Annecy continues to cement its status as the global heart of animation. Following a record-breaking 2025 that saw 18,000 attendees, the 2026 edition (running from June 21 to 27) is shaping up to be another landmark year.

The festival kicks off with the world premiere of Minions & Monsters and will feature close to 50 animated features in its Official Selection. Additionally, the MIFA (International Animation Film Market) will celebrate its 41st year, tackling industry-defining topics like the impact of AI, the rising African animation sector, and the evolving crossover between video games and animation.
