The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader

For the 2010 installment of the Chronicles of Narnia films, THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER, Cinesite built many of the mysterious worlds that Lucy, Edmund and Eustace are magically transported to.

As the Dawn Treader ship presses forward through a mysterious mist, the White Witch appears to tease Edmund and incite dark thoughts in his mind. Actress Tilda Swinton was filmed over two days of principal photography at Pinewood Studios. A 3D cyberscan of the actress’ head was used to build a model which was rigged and animated by Cinesite, to match the original performance. The character’s hair was animated in flowing wisps around her face and the mist was created in Houdini utilizing bespoke fluid simulation tools.

In other sequences, digital matte paintings were created to build environments behind the action.
