Christmas 2022

What a year it’s been for Cinesite!  Celebrating our 30th anniversary, winning our first BAFTA award and welcoming new partners into the family – it’s been fabulous!
As we close our 30th year, we’d like to shine a light on some of the biggest stories from the past few months, and to say, to those who supported us and made it all possible, a big

THANK YOU, AND CHEERS TO 2023!

In April this year, the second season of The Witcher won a BAFTA for Special, Visual and Graphic Effects at the 2022 British Academy Television Craft Awards.

Our team created a range of environments, terrifying creatures and various visual effects across the series.

In July, Cinesite announced its acquisition of L’Atelier Animation and Squeeze, both based in Quebec.  The following month, Skopje and Belgrade based VFX studio FX3X joined and most recently, leading Asian animation studio Assemblage.

The Cinesite group of brands has grown to become one of the largest independent entertainment service studios in the world.

Loveable, would-be Samurai Hank practiced his moves and saved the day in Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank.  Since that animated feature released worldwide, we’ve been hard at work on other productions, including Hitpig, Animal Farm and the Disney episodic Iwájú, which will launch some time in 2023.

Cinesite’s London and Montreal studios delivered stunning visual effects for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, including a single 9 minute section of the film.

Seamless environments, creatures, digidoubles and stunning water and hydrobomb FX all feature in our sequences.

In celebration of Cinesite’s 30th anniversary, we’ve been releasing a whole range of content over the past few months, looking back at some landmark moments and forward to our future.

Interactive timeline, press articles and our filmed Anniversary Anecdotes, are all available to read.

Cinesite was the lead visual effects vendor for Roald Dahl’s Matilda: The Musical, which released in the UK on 25th November and will release on Netflix for the rest of the world on December 25th.

In the New Year, we’ll be adding an extended article about our VFX to this site.

Cinesite has its largest footprint in Canada and our representation at Siggraph, Vancouver in 2022 certainly bore this out!

It was a fantastic opportunity for production and pipeline teams from across the whole group to get together, discuss future innovations across the group and encourage potential recruits to join our teams.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is more important now than ever before.  Establishing an equitable working environment means that everyone feels safe, valued, and able to be their creative and authentic selves.  We embrace difference at Cinesite.

Earlier this year, Sara Martin was appointed group-wide EDI Specialist.  You can read more about her position in this interview.
