CINESITE
Eamonn Butler
Chief Animation Officer

As both a director and creator, Eamonn oversees all aspects of Cinesite’s animated output in Montreal, Vancouver and London, both for visual effects and animation. Eamonn has the broad experience necessary to understand how best to staff and deliver top quality animation.

Eamonn began his career in traditional, hand drawn animation. He first worked on the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series before being hired by Walt Disney during a worldwide recruiting tour. Eamonn spent ten years at Walt Disney as an animator training in digital techniques, but soon rose up to run the entire department.

Since his time at Walt Disney, Eamonn’s credits have expanded to include VFX-heavy blockbusters such as Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and more recently, season three of The Witcher for Netflix and Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, having previously overseen Avengers: Infinity War. For the latter, he was responsible for the team animating Dr. Strange’s cloak – which went from a simple piece of cloth to a character in itself, manipulated to portray a playful, almost human personality. He says, “When working on anything Avengers-related, there’s a massive expectation from the audience and fans that spurs you on to go the extra mile”.

Eamonn was associate director for the 2025 Andy Serkis production of Animal Farm. Prior to that, he was a director for the feature animation adaptation of world-famous theatrical show, Riverdance.

At home, Eamonn spends his time learning every trade and technique possible. From fixing cars to DIY; he likes to understand the tools at his fingertips. “I think it’s a very big part of the animation mindset. From your work environment to the technology that is constantly developing, you have to be open to embracing new methods.”
