Cinesite Montreal worked on the second season of M59, created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Eric Kripke, which premiered on Amazon MGM with episodes beginning on 17th September 2025.
The studio’s contribution spans the first three episodes, bringing the show’s chaotic, darkly comedic action to life. Cinesite’s work included blood simulations, fluid dynamics, and speed-based VFX to support the storytelling.
Episode 201 opens with a spectacular moment as a fire-breathing Supe ignites rows of shot glasses, followed by a grotesquely comic sequence in which a keg is drained through a hose. To sell the gag, Cinesite animated the beer coursing upward, crumpled the keg to signal it was empty, and simulated FX beer spraying across the room once the hose was removed.
The tone shifts in Episode 202, with the violence becoming more visceral. Cinesite tracked the blood for continuity as it seeped from the nurse’s ears and eyes, then amplified the horror as she turns and stabs a fellow nurse in the eye, blood bursting out.
Episode 203 introduces a burst of super-powered speed. As a speedster Supe crashes through a glass exit door, Cinesite revealed hidden graffiti, added dynamic whooshing effects, and retimed the doors to properly capture the impossible velocity of the moment.
Behind the work, VFX Producer Lilian Bravo and VFX Supervisor Jay Randall guided the creative process, ensuring each shot evolved seamlessly with client feedback. CG Supervisor Amandine Claude and Compositing Supervisor Florian Strobl oversaw the integration of fire, blood, and motion elements, grounding the visual effects so they felt natural and in-camera. Inspired by the irreverent energy of The Boys, the team struck a careful balance between practical effects and CGI, ensuring even the most outrageous sequences served the story.
M59 Season 2 is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
